This is an aboriginal painting to be found on a rock shelter in the
Namadgi National Park. One reaches the shelter through the Yankee Hat
Trail. This is off-limits for bikes: I took the photograph below in
September 1996, as I walked there.
Some insects deposit their eggs under the bark of gum
trees. The larvae eat their way through the wood. Once the gum tree
sheds the outer bark layer, these beautiful patterns are exposed.
