In September 2005 my wife Carol and I returned to France with our bikes for our 17th cycling trip in that wonderful country where the food is great, the wine is great, the cycling is varied and interesting, the roads are good and the weather is warm and sunny ..... normalement! Because we have criss-crossed the southern half of the country so often it had become difficult to find a route that we had not traveled before. But the Auvergne was an area as yet undiscovered by us so I planned a route that would take us through this lightly populated rugged region that makes up a large part of the Massif Central. Although we had done little training for this trip I was not concerned because I assumed, from the map at left, here, that we were essentially starting at the top and going to the bottom so it should be basically downhill all the way. It turns out that there is absolutely no correlation between north/south and up/down. As usual this trip report is far too wordy, dull, uninteresting. I need to develop a more concise, readable, enjoyable writing style. And you will find interspersed in the travelogue asides in which I attempt to educate the reader, my career in the classroom forcing me to seize every ``teachable moment''. Finally, I wrote much of this as we were experiencing it. I have tried to make the verb tenses coherent but there will be times, I'm sure, when ``rode'' slips into ``ride''. Please accept my apologies for all the above.

Toma como punto de partida Ginebra, a orillas del Lago Leman, para terminar en Ventimiglia, en la frontera entre Francia e Italia, a orillas del Mediterráneo. La ruta sigue el itinerario descrito en la guía ''La traversé des Alpes à VTT, du Léman'' la Méditerranée'' de Patrick Bernard, editado por Didier Richard.

Recorremos en Francia: Savoie-Mont Blanc (Genevois, Chablais, Portes du Soleil, Grand Massif, Pays du Mont Blanc, Beaufortain, Tarentaise y Maurienne), Hautes Alpes (Briançonais, Pays du Guillestrois y Queyras) y Alpes-Haute Provence (Ubaye). Y en Italia: Piemonte-Cuneo (Valle Maira, Valle Stura, Valle Gesso, Valle Vermenagna y Valle Tanaro) e Imperia (Alpi Marittime y Liguria).

Ruta eminentemente montañera que coincide en muchos momentos con los tres grandes itinerarios transalpinos (Grande Traverse des Alps GTA-GR 5, Via Alpina y Route des Grandes Alpes) y con otros senderos de largo recorrido (GRP Littoral du Leman, Tour des Portes du Soleil, Tour des Fiz, GRP Tour du Pays du Mont Blanc, GRP Tour du Beaufortain, GRP Tour de Haute-Tarentaise, GR 57 Tour du Mont Thabor, GR 58 Tour du Queyras, GR 541, GR 56, GR 6, GRP Tour du Chambeyron, Percorsi Occitani, Via de la Sale y Alta Via Monti Ligure).

Se visitan algunos grandes macizos montañosos (Mont Blanc, Vanoise, Ecrins y Queyras) junto con otras zonas menos conocidas (Chablais, Giffre, Montagne d'Anterne, Beaufortain, Tarentaise, Iseran, Maurienne, Thabor, Grand-Briaçonais, Vallée de la Cerveyrette, Durance, Parpaillon, Ubaye, Viraysee, Mary, Haut-Piemont, Valle Maira, Valle Stura, Haute Roya y Liguria).

Camino de Santiago realizado en bicicleta de montañiendo de Roma (12 de junio) hasta Santiago (31 de julio). He seguido los siguientes itinerarios:

• La Vía Francigena, en Italia, desde Roma hasta Montgenevro. Itinerario señaternita di San Jacopo. El itinerario pasa por las regiones: Lazio, Toscana, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria y Piemonte.
• La antigua Vía Domitia, en la actualidad Sendero de Gran Recorrido GR 653D, que comienza en el Puerto de Montgenevro para conectar en Arles con la Vía Tolosana-Chemin de Arles. Itinerario señation Française de la Randonnee Pedestre FFRP. El itinerario transcurre por la Provence-Cote d´Azur (Hautes Alpes, Alpes de Haute Provence, Vaucluse y Bouche du Rhone).
• El Camino Francés del Mediterraneo o Vía Tolosana, en la actualidad Sendero de Gran Recorrido GR 653D. Comienza en Arles, pasa por Montpellier y Toulouse (de la que recibe su nombre), para cruzar los Pirineos y entrar en Españomport. Después de recorrer el Camino Aragonés, conecta con el Camino Frances en Puente la Reina. Itinerario señation Fçnçaise de la Randonnee Pedestre FFRP. El itinerario transcurre en Francia el Languedoc-Rousillon y Midi-Pyrenees, en Españrra.
• El Camino Francés en Españe la Reina. Realizado en bicicleta de montañ20 al 29 de Julio dentro del viaje de Roma a Santiago. El itinerario transcurre por Navarra, La Rioja, Castilla y León y Galicia. Desde Santiago continua hasta Muxía pasando por Fisterra (30 y 31 de Julio) finalizando a orillas del Atlántico en la Costa da Morte.

Recorrido cicloturista en BTT con alforjas que da la vuelta a Andalucía recorriendo muchos de los espacios naturales protegidos de la comunidad por caminos tradicionales.

Es difícil resumir en pocas palabras 2.500 kilometros, 8 provincias y 36 días de pedaleo. Multitud de paisajes. Montañas y playas, bosques y desiertos.

Toda la información se la debemos a un magnífico grupo de bikers andaluces que ha creado un recorrido único, compendio de todos los caminos y paisajes de Andalucía. Todo ello en una web www.transandalus.org donde podemos encontrar rutometros, mapas, tracks para gps y mapas para gps. Y mucho trabajo desinteresado que agradeceré toda la vida.

Comienza en Sevilla, para bajar hasta Sanlucar de Barrameda. Da la vuelta a Andalucía en sentido antihorario para volver a Sanlucar. Para regresar a Sevilla rodea el PN de Doñana por Almonte.

Travesía de los Alpes de este a oeste, que une Trieste y Ventimiglia . Circula Cinco países: Italia, Eslovenia, Austria, Suiza y Francia. Los macizos montañosos más conocidos de los Alpes: A. Julianos, A. Cárnicos, Dolomitas , Adamello-Pressanella, Ortler, Engadina, Bernina y Bregaglia, lagos de Como y Maggiore, Monte Rosa, Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso, Monviso, Alpes Marítimos y Mercantour. Recorrido realizado en solitario en 43 días (del 4 de julio al 15 de agosto de 2009). Son unos 2.100 kilómetros y cerccerca de 60.000 metros de desnivel (media diaria: 50 km. y 1.400 m.). Coincide en muchos tramos con al Vía Alpina, Alta Vía Cárnica, Tour del Monte Rosa, Tour del Mont Blanc, Alta Vía del Valle de Aosta y Vía de la Sale. Cruza collados por encima de los 2.500 metros (Tarscher Pass, Stelvio, Cassana, Turlo, Salati, Bettaforca, Nana, Malatrá, Chavannes, Chivasso, Longia y Sibolet). Cicloturismo de montaña en estado puro. El sueño de todo biker de atravesar todos los Alpes.

partenza dalla nostra sede di Brisighella il venerdì sera, sosta per la cena e la notte a Casa di Ponte nel comune di Tredozio; via per i boschi del fantastico parco delle Foreste Casentinesi; sosta con cena e pernottamento a Fiumicello nel comune di Premilcuore; secondo giorno in quota per toccare il monte Falco e il Falterona, famoso per dare vita all'Arno, e discesa adrenalinica fino alla valle del Sieve per prendere il treno e fare ritorno a Brisighella.

IBAS - Island Bike Adventure Sprengisandur. L'IBAS è un percorso in mountain bike attraverso l'Islanda, dal Nord-Est al Sud dell'Isola, lungo la mitica pista dello Sprengisandur. Questa pista, la più lunga e impegnativa dell'Isola, è stata affrontata per la prima volta a bordo di un veicolo negli anni Trenta da dei pionieri islandesi. Oggi per un fuoristradista che desidera viaggiare in Islanda con un 4x4 lo Sprengisandur è l'itinerario più ambito. Solo pochissimi appassionati, in genere islandesi, hanno la preparazione, la capacità di affrontare lunghi giorni in solitudine nel deserto più grande d'Europa e portare a termine il percorso in bicicletta.

Terreni ricoperti da lava, rocce vulcaniche, basalti, un deserto di 35 km di sabbia nera con piccole dune, fiumi glaciali da guadare, distese di erba verde dagli effetti fluorescenti, ghiacciai, montagne dalle cromie indescrivibili, distese di pietra pomice, canyon profondi, vulcani e cascate sono le visioni di questo incredibile ambiente primordiale.

In 2004 for we bet on biking in California, to search for some of the best singletrack, in places such as Annadel, Downieville, Truckee, Lake Tahoe and Monterey. Essentially, we did the same thing as the previous summer, when we cycled in Colorado, but in a different part of the United States.

2003 we biked in Colorado. The idea was to ride the famous Colorado singletrack, biking between the places with singletrack, to see whether the Colorado singletrack is the best in the world. The question remains unanswered as we have zillions of miles of singletrack to try yet. However, one thing is clear, Colorado singletrack is fantastic. Colorado has some of the best trails in the world.

Surrounded by three mountain ranges, Grenoble is in a unique position and offers a cyclist a huge variety of rides. The rolling mountains of the Chartreuse to the north, the high plateau of the Vercors to the south-west before the huge imposing climbs of the Alps to the east.

Update 2011 - In, out of and through Austria by train taking your own bicycle with you

Rail services of the Austrian national federal railway company OEBB have seriously deteriorated the last few years. There are no direct connections to France, Belgium, Netherlands any more and the rest is a fragment. On domestic connections passengers suffer from delays, overcrowded trains, bad service and all sorts of unpleasant experiences including overcrowded trains cleared by the police.

Most important for tourists with bicycles is that in 2010 most of the trains that still had bicycle capacities were robbed of the luggage van.
