What was this day like? Considering that I climbed Mont Ventoux, it couldn't have been bad. It's really a fantastic climb! The legend, the magic, the must! It's the Lourdes for the cyclists of any religion. And what a descent! 21 km of mind-blowing pleasure. Enough to get me through few more cols.

Lana 2012 Tour
by Iris Mueck, tour started September 2012, submitted 6 September 2012
Europe: Italy

Our travel to Lana: by train and bicycle. Leaving Vienna by night train, which arrives very early in the morning at Innsbruck: 4:17 hrs. Still dark! We ride in night time the old Brenner road. Just beautiful. We experienced a lot of traffic from people sparing the toll for the freeway. But, we earned our award on the downhill of the newly erected bicycle path at the Brenner road down to Vipiteno (Sterzing). Continued riding down the Eisack valley to Bolzano on the bicycle path.

Riding in Europe, Alps
by Ray Hosler, tour started 1985, submitted 22 August 2012

The Alps have long been a summer and winter playground for vacationers around the world. They ski, they hike, they ride bikes. What better venue for the Tour de France than the Alps? After many years of reading, seeing, and dreaming, I had an opportunity to see Europe by bike. As a free-lance writer working part-time at Palo Alto Bicycles, I had no commitments. It was 1985. Greg LeMond had nearly won the Tour de France and was competing in the World Championships in Italy. I decided to go see him race. A friend who was familiar with riding in Europe gave valuable advice.

Riding in Europe, Alps
by Ray Hosler, tour started 1986, submitted 22 August 2012

After my first ride through the Alps the previous year, I had the opportunity to go with a friend, Jobst Brandt, who had been riding in Europe since 1959. We would brave fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant meltdown in Russia. A plume of radioactive dust blew over the Alps while we were there, so here's my glowing report.

The Amsterdam-Munich Express
by Suzanne Gibson, tour started July 2012, submitted 20 August 2012
Europe: Holland, Germany

This year's summer tour started in Amsterdam. After visiting Haarlem und then Leiden, we continued on to Den Haag, Utrecht and Arnhem. We visited the Veluwe National Park, crossed the border at Bocholt and rode on to Münster and then Kassel for this year's Documenta. We then followed the Fulda, Sinn , Main and Altmühl river valleys - all separated by hills that had to be crossed. When we reached the Danube, we felt we were almost home and it was smooth sailing to Munich.

A tour to explore hidden Styrian summits
by Iris Mueck, tour started June 2012, submitted 30 June 2012
Europe: Austria

Road bike Tour to Wildalpen (Styria/Austria). We ignored the very hot weather and made the tour... With light luggage we made this day 115 kilometers. Prime distance we did per train (Moedling to Payerbach). Then the bicycle...: 1st summit the Preiner Gscheid (height 1.070 meters above sea level) down to Mürzsteg and then 2nd summit: the Niederalpl. A 1.221 meters high connecting summit. For bicyclists rather steep and long (My estimate: 10% slope). My advise: avoid this summit, when not in mood... We have been heading for Wildalpen, found a perfect (affordable) 4**** hotel and enjoyed the evening on a natural pool. The little town Wildalpen is embedded in the 'Salza'-valley. The waters are wild. like the upper Enns river. We have seen many sport kayak riders. We consider to go again to this area, just to share the good times with the paddlers. No one would believe in us, saying, we have been riding home in one day. Hitting Goestling, Lunz, Gaming, St. Anton on Jesnitz, Frankenfels, Kirchberg, St.Poelten. At St.Poelten a bus has taken us back home. Nevertheless this day ended again with 123 kilometers. Hot, hot... Enjoy the pictures below. Good luck to all our followers.

Cycle Tour in the Po Valley
by Suzanne Gibson, tour started May 2012, submitted 17 June 2012
Europe: Italy

Italy, Italy, why Italy? We live in Munich and Italy is close and yet foreign. It's easy to get there by train with our bikes and its culture will never cease to lure us - its food, language, architecture, flair. We chose this stretch along the Po for its abundance of beautiful towns and cities and May is a perfect time to open the cycling season. On this two-week tour we didn't stick strictly to the Po, but meandered off when a city interested us or we hadn't been there before.

Europe: Italy

The cycle route opened in 2009 starts from Cadoneghe and traces the "journey of St. Anthony" until Camposampiero. In reality, the Holy One did this route in reverse: finding Camposampiero almost dying, he wanted to come to Padua where he died 13 June 1231.

A mountain bike tour to the Berounka valley (Czech Republik)
by Iris Mueck, tour started September 1999, submitted 30 May 2012

Berounka is a little town, West of Praha, the capital city of the Czech republic. The tour itself is just a day ride, but in a fairytale landscape. Not easy to find anymore in good old Europe. So peaceful, so warm and nice. In each little village an old restaurant to 're-fuel' ones body... With what? Czech beer, charged as top brand. Needless to say, we do it again! Enjoy the pictures.

Road bike Tour to the cradle of the Western culture. Bike Tour Peloponnese Tour 2012 (about 552 kilometers). Preface:

My former managing director, who is an awesome bicyclist today has planned this tour carefully. Our all aim: to ride to the cradle of the world culture. Furthermore, we had a good ghost with us: Oxi Quassel, who explained all the details of the archeological sites and museums. We have visited the archaeological sites & Museums of Athens, Delphi, Olympus, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Corinth & Aigina...; in the very last moment we hit the Greek National Museum at Athens... We spent a day of at the beautiful Island Hydra (no cars...!)

Lasciati condurre....

A journey begins when you begin to think and ends when you stop to remember. My trip to Norway began when I thought of an afternoon. Comfortably seated in the car with some friends we passed two cyclists decked with luggage in tow who were facing a challenging climb. We had already experienced the severity of those places and I promised myself to do it again on two wheels. The charm of those two tough wins that played fearless, shook me.

Mallorca Training Tour 2012
by Iris Mueck, tour started March 2012, submitted 2 April 2012
Europe: Spain

The Spain Island of Majorca is always a good choice for winter-weary bicyclists to warm up the lazy bones. It is advisable to check the hotel prices which vary from • 20,- to • 70,-. Quoted prices for half board. Attention, never take an unknown hotel below three star. It will never fulfill a bicyclist expectation. Sometimes even three-star hotel are questionable. I have rented the bike by paying the rent via PayPal in advance. The rent is more or less the same as the airfare price to transport a bicycle. My dealer has taken the bicycle right to my hotel. Great service!

On my tour, I have been lucky, only two cold days. Nevertheless, I kept on riding... One week = sweet 740 kilometers. For me, it looked the Puig Major road has been extended (or my 'winter-weary' body came down to an utmost weak point). Enjoy the report and the pictures. Good luck to all followers.

Cicloturismo in Lituanua - Kaunas e Vilnius

Europe: Lithuania
language: it, en

Third and final description of the tour from Riga to Vilnius.

Although the old town of Kaunas is easily explored on foot, it's worth using the bicycle to see beyond the Old Town and to reach important places in the suburbs. Along the two rivers that flow through and above the hills that surround it, are unusual and picturesque views. The bicycle helps get anywhere and enjoy freedom in their best points. A few kilometers to reach the "Devintojo Forto Muziejus" (written a few more would not hurt) and his monumental area of the fort that was built on the last stand against the Russian invasion.

Greedy Euro Bike Tour
by Marco Bacchin , tour started 2012, submitted 9 March 2012
language: en, it

Da lì a là is an Italian expression meaning roughly hither and thither, and this summarize my will, my restless temper of changing place every so often. I'm biking around Europe stopping from time to time when my attention is captured by an outstanding recipe a traditional food or a weird one. Pedalling alone is just fine, but together with other cyclists, especially from the country I'll be riding at the moment is just fantastic: less fatigue, more fun. You can get a look at the Euro-Tour map to get a gist of what'll be the route I'll follow in this year. If you're biking in the some zone, or nearby or you're going to start something similar and you'll like to have a ride together, let me know. Get in touch! Sys

" The show must go on", non ho alternative, riparto.
